Alright, he actually walked past me. For of those who aren’t involved in The Grand Prix racing circles, Edmonton hosted the Edmonton Grand Prix this past weekend and the company I work for had a table at the big gala dinner on Saturday night.

It was a pretty cool high class event that was set up to benefit the local School Lunch Program. The dinner was an excellent 6 course meal followed by a live auction with all proceeds going towards the Edmonton School Lunch program.

Now, keep in mind there was an open bar during the evening and I managed to have a few drinks to make me feel relaxed. At one point during the auction, the auctioneer was selling 3 designer suits. Not particularly something I would be interested in owning, let along bidding on. So as luck would have it, my rolled up sleeves caught my elbow and as I straightened my elbow out, the auctioneer pointed to me and said “$3500! To the gentleman in the white shirt!” As he pointed to my direction, I quickly realized it was me he was pointing out and before I could flag off the bid. Someone outbid me at $3700 to save me from having to empty my pockets, literally…

The auction raised an impressive $50,000 towards the Lunch Program which will benefit 2000 inner city children. Soon, the evening performance started up and my buzz was wearing off enough that I couldn’t bare to listen Michelle Wright after her second song. Before leaving, I did contribute $20 towards the lunch program through a raffle to win airplane tickets to anywhere in North America. So, I didn’t win the flight, but some kids will eat well for a day or two because of me. I think that deserves some positive Karma to come my way.
