Why By a Lotto Ticket?

So.. Let me get this straight. You are trying to save up a million dollars, yet you buy lotto tickets?
I can totally understand his confusion as to why I would be doing something that is obviously a frivolous thing. Trust me, I know this all to well, since I went into depth about the potential waste of money lotto tickets can be on a persons savings. But, regardless, there is that dream that a lotto ticket just can’t deny.
Imagine winning a couple million dollars on the lotto. The lure is at times irresistible. Especially, when it comes to office pools. I just can’t say no to those. Imagine being the only guy left in the office when everyone else is now enjoying the millions they won. Just would suck going to work.
So yes I admit it, I do purchase a lotto ticket once in a while. It might be a couple dollars a month for that sense of hope and elation that would go along with the dream of winning a large sum of money. But I am still focused on saving towards my retirement. Will I be able to earn $1 million by 2012? Only time will tell, but wouldn’t it be nice to achieve retirement now?
Most people average 4 careers in their working lives. I have been a Cook, Hotel Clerk, Black Jack Dealer and now I am a web designer.
At 30 I realized that early retirement would be the next logical step. For me to achieve early retirement I will need to earn and save $1 million by July 2012. It is my personal goal to use online revenue streams to achieve my goal to become financially independent and allow me to live my life to the fullest.
Hey, I always say “You can’t win if you don’t play!”
[…] retire - right?” And earlier in the day, while signing up for a blog service, I came across a fellow retirement blogger’s site who admitted to buying lottery tickets. How many people are buying […]
I came accross your site when I signed up for MyBlogLog and saw your writing on buying lottery tickets. Yours was the second reference to buying lottery tickets to acheive retirement I encountered today. And so I wrote about it on my blog, and referenced your post, you can see it by clicking on the link - duh!
I also wanted to let you know, that even though you have the number $1 million entrenched in your goal, that if you wish to retire early - it can be done on much less. In fact, you may be able to pull it off, right now.
Continued good luck on your quest, I hope you win the jackpot, and make your goal seem paltry.

I’ve always said, the lottery is a tax on people who can’t do math :p
